  • Canadian soldiers are our sisters, brothers, fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters. They come in every possible type, as varied a group as can be found in any Canadian town or city. Some are adventure seekers, others are driven by a desire to help Afghans, yet others want to round out careers in the Canadian Forces. Our soldiers come in a myriad of personality types as well, from the intellectual to the brash, from the sanguine to the wary.
  • "We see time and time again how difficult life can be for our soldiers during their deployment," said Getchell. "But there's a group of people for whom their challenge can feel much greater, the sons and daughter of these brave men and women, who wait and worry in silence for the safe arrival of their mothers and/or fathers to return from their mission."
  • From the War of 1812 to the War on Terrorism, Canadian soldiers have a reputation for fighting "above their weight." Time and again, Canada's small, often underfunded, forces have taken on bigger, stronger foes and walked shoulder to shoulder into battle with much more powerful allies.

  • Forgotten Heroes: Canada and the Korean War-It is called Canada's "Forgotten War." Over 500 Canadians died in the United Nations' struggle to repel the communist forces that invaded South Korea on June 25, 1950. To the people they helped liberate, the Canadians were heroes. Yet those who made it home returned to an indifferent country and a government that took 40 years to officially acknowledge their sacrifice.
  • Fallen Canadians - Here we honour those who have given their lives serving Canada and helping the people...
  • Canada has a gallant and proud military history. We have a reputation of being hard-nosed, resilient and innovative, and have made contributions to the victories of the world's largest and most dangerous conflicts.
  • Herein lies a multitude of Remembrance... Together they herald a national epitaph of pride and gratitude to all those who fought and died for our freedom. Your profound commitment to all that is good has earned you a direct passage to Heaven. You are Canada, and we will never forget you.
  • Many Canadians have been called on to defend our values and to help keep the peace in nations around the world. Canadian men and women fought bravely in many battles and have honoured our country through exceptional actions. Wars helped define who Canadians were and what Canada stands for. Anyone who has donned a military uniform and swore to protect his country is a hero and deserves credit for making what could be the ultimate sacrifice.
